My weekly Sunday Snapshot blog gives me an opportunity to look back on my sleeper picks from the past week and rate their performance.
Cliff Pennington
I recommended the Oakland A's shortstop who I believe is in the midst of a breakout season. He rewarded owners this week by hitting .409 with six runs scored, two RBI's and a stolen base. Though Pennington has limited power potential, he is a guy who should be owned in the majority of mixed leagues. He would be a must-start option if he didn't bat near the bottom of Oakland's order.
Cody Ross
There is a reason Ross remains a fringe option in mixed formats. Going into last week he was in the midst of an 11-game hit streak; then he went stone cold. Ross hit just .185 on the week. At least fantasy owners benefitted from his run production; Ross scored five runs and drove in three over the last fantasy period. Look for Ross to be a spot starter in mixed formats. He is a guy who will remain on waivers for most of the season, but Ross could also be a useful option if you play the matchups right.
Matt LaPorta
Though LaPorta had a shortened week due to a head contusion, he made it worthwhile for fantasy owners. In his five games, LaPorta batted .444 while adding five RBI's and three runs scored. Keep a close eye on LaPorta as the former first-rounder may be finally playing to his potential. LaPorta could be a valuable option in the majority of mixed leagues if he can continue his hot streak in the second half.
