My weekly Sunday Snapshot blog gives me an opportunity to look back on my sleeper picks from the past week and rate their performance.
Bud Norris
Norris pitched well this week for the Astros after my recommendation because of his spotless record over his past five starts. Norris came through again, going six innings while allowing just one run. He struck out four during the performance but did not factor into the final decision of a game that went into extra innings. Continue to use Norris is deeper mixed formats while he is hot.
Jon Garland
Garland didn't fair as well as Norris this week. He didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning versus the Phillies, but they then took him for three runs on three hits. Garland suffered the lose in a 3-1 game, but has excelled recently. He hasn't allowed more than three runs in a start since late July and continues to pick up his game in the midst of a pennant race.
David Murphy
Though he had been swinging a hot bat since taking over for injured Nelson Cruz, Murphy hit a wall this week. I was personally burned by his 4 for 14 performance in my 10-team keeper league. Murphy is waiver wire fodder which can easily be replaced by a fresh hot bat. Look at young players such as Ryan Raburn and Logan Morrison to fill the gap in your lineup.
